How to Travel Alone. Don't let the lack of a traveling companion stop you from seeing
the world. Sometimes it's more fun to explore on your own. You will need: Research a Room reservation for the first night,
a Contact at home, Copies of your passport and credit card information, Appropriate clothes, a Tour or class, a Local
newspaper, Bar seating and outdoor cafes and Index cards. Optional: Cell phone with international service
and phrases of the local language. Step 1. Research your travel destination. Though
spontaneity is one of the joys of solo travel, knowing a bit about where you're going is
key when you don't have someone along to help figure out things like transportation. Pick
a place that's not too remote or couples-oriented. Less developed countries tend to be good places
to meet other solo travelers. Step 2. Consider your hotel options. Less lavish accommodations
are more likely to attract other single travelers who, like you, don't have someone to split

you decide, make sure to reserve a room for your first night in town, when you're apt
to be jet-lagged and disoriented.. Step 3. Pack only as much as you can easily carry
by yourself -- preferably in one carry-on bag to minimize the risk of lost luggage.
Leave expensive jewelry at home. Step 4. Leave your itinerary -- or at least a general idea
of where you'll be -- with a few loved ones. Take a copy of your passport with you, and
leave them a copy as well as your credit cards numbers. E-mail yourself numbers to call if
your cards are lost or stolen. If you're traveling abroad, make sure your cell phone has international

few key phrases and dress according to local fashion. Consider buying a few items that

will help you look like a native. Step 6. Take a walking tour, a cooking class, or some
other activity; they're great ways to meet other travelers. Consult a newspaper about
local events, or ask your hotel to help you make arrangements. Step 7. Don't be shy about
going to restaurants by yourself and chatting with other diners and waitstaff; a great way
to do that is by eating at the bar. Having breakfast at your hotel and snacking at outdoor
cafes are also conducive to making friends while munching. Though it's tempting to hide
behind a book or scribble in a journal, you're more approachable if you forgo those things.
Step 8. Stay safe. Write notes and directions on index cards before you leave your hotel;
if you must take out a map, do it discreetly. Avoid isolated areas and don't tell strangers
you're traveling alone. Above all, trust your instincts. If something feels wrong, get out
of the situation. Did you know According to a survey, 29 percent of leisure travelers
took a solo trip in 2006.

How to express your opinion in English
Hi, my name is Rebecca, and in today's lesson I'll show you how to express your opinion in English
Now, this is important whether you're participating in a conversation,
a debate, or a discussion, or whether you're writing a report, or an evaluation, or proposal
you're still going to need various types of phrases and expressions to express your view.
So let's look at what some of these expressions are. Okay?
So, here are some of the most common ones. Now, the one at the top is probably the strongest,
and the one down here is the weakest. So let's go through them.
You could say, "I think the government should keep university free," for example.
Or, "I believe..." Next one, "I feel..." Or, "I suppose the government
should keep university free." Now, you see with my body language, here, it's a little
bit weaker. So you say, "I suppose the government should keep university free." But this kind
of body language kind of suggests that you're not very sure, but you think so. All right?
Last one is very weak, but you could use it if you have... If you believe it a little bit.
Okay? In that position. "I guess the government should keep university free." Right?
It's weak, but it's acceptable. All right? Again, these are the stronger options.
Here are some other expressions: "In my opinion, we should accept their offer."
Or: "In my view, we should accept their offer." Okay? So you could also use any of these,
In my opinion. Now, remember here, we don't need any kind of punctuation after, "I think"
It just goes directly. "I think the government should keep university free." But here, we
do have a comma. Okay? So, "In my opinion," - comma - or, "In my view," - comma -, that's
"In my opinion" 逗點,或 "In my view" 逗點。這很
important when you're writing. Okay? Next one:
"From my viewpoint," or "From my point of view," or "From my perspective, it's time
to make a decision." Okay? Again, with each of these, remember there is a comma after
that expression. Okay? Next one.
"According to me, the Prime Minister should resign." Okay?
Or, "It seems to me that you should take the job."
Alright? So these are some other expressions. Now,
that's a lot of expressions so what you want to do is to choose the expressions that you like.
Perhaps these could be this sort of translation of the expressions that you
use in your own language because you probably like those expressions. So learn a few of
them correctly, rather than trying to learn all of them and getting them mixed up. Okay?
So you don't want to say, "From my opinion," or something like that. So it's better to
learn a few of them and use them correctly. Alright?

May I have the bill?
Can you give me the bill?
May I have the check, please?
1. May I have the bill?
May I have the bill, please?
2. Bill me later.
Put this on my bill, please!
3. fit the bill.
Once you find someone to fit the bill, just go ahead and hire them.
4. foot the bill
所以這用法從原來的at the foot of the bill,後來就變成了foot the bill。
Who is going to foot the bill for the loss?
4 Ways to Order at a Restaurant
https://www.hopenglish.com/4-ways-to-order-at-a-restaurant?ref=category
Hey, guys! I'm Alex. Thanks for clicking, and welcome to this lesson on four ways to order at a restaurant. Now, those of you who are visiting English-speaking countries will find this lesson very useful as these are the most common ways that you will order food anywhere, whether it's McDonald's, or a fast-food place, or a sit-down restaurant. These expressions are very common and very useful.
So, the first one we have is "Can/Could I have/get...?" So, for example, you might ask me what's the difference between "could" and "can." Simply put, "could" is a little more polite. So, if you go to a restaurant, a fast-food restaurant, and you're looking at the menu, and you say, "Okay... Okay. Could I get a hamburger and fries, please?" Okay? So you're being very polite there. Now, you can also say, "Could I have...?" Again, "Could I get...?" "Could I have...?" You can also say, "Can I get...?" or "Can I have...?" Okay, so this is one way.
所以,我們的第一個說法是「Can/Could I have/get...?(可以給我... 現在,你也可以說:「Could I have...?」再一次,「Could I get...?」、「Could I have...?」你也可以說:「Can I get...?」或「Can I have...?」
Here we have "I will have...," "I will get...," "I will take...." So the first one, it's a request, it's a question; it's polite. This one is a little more direct. Okay? So you can say, "I will have...." Okay, "I will have...," "I will take...," "I will get...." You can use any one of these three verbs. And, again, the person who is serving you will clearly understand your message. Okay?
我們在這有「I will have...」、「I will get...」、「I will take...」(我要點...)。 所以你可以說:「I will have...」。好的,「I will have...」、「I will take...」、「I will get...」。
Finally—not finally—next, "I want...." All right? This just means "I desire...," "I would like...," which is the most polite way of saying this. "I want" means "Give this to me." All right? So, "I want a coffee," "I want a medium coffee, please," for example.
這只是表示「I desire...(我想要)」、「I would like...(我想要...)」,「I would like...」
And finally, "I would like...," "would like" being the most polite way to ask for something when you're ordering food at a restaurant. So, you can say, "I would like an orange juice." So, if your waiter, your waitress, your server asks you, "What would you like to drink?"—"I would like an orange juice."
Now, those of you who know a little bit about contractions in English, you can also contract "I would" to "I'd." All right. So, instead of being very, very formal and saying, "I would like an orange juice, please," you can say, "I'd like." All right? "I'd like." We'll just make that a little stronger because it's difficult to see. There we go.
那麼,與其非常、非常正式然後說:「I would like an orange juice, please.(請給我一杯柳橙汁)」,你也可以說:「I'd like」。好嗎?「I'd like」。
Okay! So, guys, these are four very common ways to order food at a restaurant. When you go up to the counter, please speak with confidence, okay? It's all in how you present yourself to the people there. So, "Can I have...?" "Can I get...?" "Could I have...?" "Could I get...?" "I will have...," "I will get...," "I will take...," "I want...," "I would like...," "I'd like...." All right?
所以,「Can I have...?」、「Can I get...?」、「Could I have...?」、「Could I get...?」、「I will have...」、「I will get...」、「I will take...」、「I want...」、「I would like...」、「I'd like...」。
So next time you go to a restaurant and it's an English-speaking restaurant, practice these phrases. And if you want to further test your understanding, please check out the quiz on engvid.com. Take care, guys! And good luck.

Can you get the lady a glass of water, please?
May I have some water, please?
如果你需要水來吞服藥品的話,你可以補上一句:「I need some water to take my tablets.」(我需要一點水來服用我的藥片。)
Still or sparkling?
除了礦泉水(mineral water)、氣泡水(sparkling water)、不含氣泡的水(still water)之外,有些餐廳會提供distilled water,這是「蒸餾水」;所以當餐廳的服務生說「We have distilled water, and there will be a charge.」
Who is in charge of this department?(這個部門由誰負責管理?)

I’d like to make a reservation.
你可以說:“I’d like to make a reservation for four at 8 p.m. for Kristi.”
Could you repeat that, please?
如果你沒聽清楚,就問他們:“Could you repeat that?”
We need another minute.
你將會聽到服務人員這樣問:“Are you ready to order?” We need another minute,” 或者是 “Can we have another minute?”
I’d like/I’ll have…
或者 “I’ll have…” 舉例來說:“I’d like the spaghetti and some tea,” 或者是 “I’ll have a sandwich and a soft drink.”
Could you bring …?/Do you have …?
This isn’t what I ordered.
假如服務生給你上錯菜了,你可以說:“I’m afraid this isn’t what I ordered, I ordered …”
Check, please!
或是:“May I have the bill, please?”

正確用法:book a table/reserve a table
I would like to book a table for five at seven o’clock tonight.(我想要預約今天晚上7點5個人。)
正確用法:have/make a reservation
I’d like to make a reservation for this weekend. Do you have any vacancies?(我想要預訂這週末的房間。
under 名下
What name is the reservation under, sir?(先生,請問您的訂位名稱為?)
How long will you hold a reservation?(請問餐廳保留訂位的時間為多久?)
postpone 延後
I’d like to postpone my reservation to the day after tomorrow.(我想要延後我的訂位日期至後天。)
Do businesses comply with a non-smoking law?(企業有遵守禁菸法令嗎?)
Do you have any tobacco/cigarettes?(你有香菸嗎?)
●Bum – Homeless Person
●Bum – Involuntarily Domiciled
●Bum – Residentially flexible
●Deaf –aurally challenged
●Fat – Gravitationally challenged
●Fat – Person of substance
●Housewife – Domestic engineer
●Old Person / Elderly – Senior Citizens
●Janitor – Sanitation engineer
●Prostitute – Sex care provider
另外,carnal appetite = the appetite of sex,carnal 為形容詞 (a.)
medium well 七分熟
(Raw)
(Rare)
(Medium Rare)
(Medium)
(Medium Well)
(Well Done)
The roast chicken is good, but they’ve overcooked the steak.(那家餐廳烤雞很棒,但是這個牛排烤過頭了。)
●sunny-side-up 太陽蛋
請不要用 Give me the bill. May/Could I have the check, please?(你好,我要結帳。)
Bill me later.”
I can’t pay for these right now. Will you bill me later?(我現在不能付款,可以之後再開帳單給我嗎?)
I found the guy who fit the bill.(我找到適合的人選了!)
wrap up 打包
Can you give me a doggy bag for the leftovers?(可以給我一個打包帶來裝剩菜嗎?)
1.gratuity
2.baksheesh。
He’s always pretty generous when it comes to tipping.(他給小費總是很大方。)
have you
Host: Thanks for joining us today.(主人:謝謝你今天和我們共度這時光。)
Guest: Thanks for having me.(客人:謝謝你們邀請我來。)

1. Take the one-way street.
One-way street
2. You will stay on the street for a while until you hit the first traffic light.
遇見某樣東西,可以用 hit 這個字,如 hit the traffic light, hit the stop sign 等等。
3. Then take a left.
向左轉可以說成 turn left、take a left 或是 make a left。
Take a left into Hemphill Ave. 或是 Take a left onto Hemphill Ave。
4. It will be Hemphill Ave. It's two-lane traffic.
5. Come down Hemphill Ave about five blocks.
我們會習慣地說, 往\\"下\\" 走, 英文也會說come \\"down\\" 或是get \\"down\\" , 這裡如果只說Come Hemphill Ave.
6. You will see a Esso gas station on your left.
7. Keep going 50 yards before you come to a fork road.
This road will dead end into 10th Street.
8. Make a right, pass two stop signs and you will run into a Wal Mart.
You'll run into it! You can't miss it!
9. The post office is just right across the street of it.
Right across the street of it 是個很重要的片語, 加上\\"right\\" across 表示出\\"正\\" 對面的意思. The office is next to it. It 代表之前已經提過的Wal-Mart,, 這裡也可以直接說成, across the street of Wal-Mart。
10. Mr. Yang's house is behind the post office.
It's behind this building
1. Take the one-way street.
One-way street
